The Internet Association is a primary sponsor of a new online tool allowing users to track state legislation pertaining to racial justice—a move the group said is part of a larger effort to address systemic racism and increase diversity in the internet industry workforce.
Consider joining CEO Update. Membership gives full access to the latest intelligence on association management, career advancement, compensation trends and networking events, as well as hundreds of listings for senior-level association jobs.
The tracker allows users to look up state legislation and executive orders concerning police and criminal justice reform. It also contains an archive of news releases about the proposed laws and regulations featured on the site.
IA collaborated with the developers of the political advocacy app Taskforce to create the tracker. The goal is to help racial justice groups and other stakeholders such as the NAACP, National Urban League, Color of Change, and National League of Cities coordinate advocacy efforts to pass criminal justice reform bills around the country, the association said in a statement.
"Meaningful social justice reforms must be passed at the national, state and local levels in order to successfully build an anti-racist society," said Sean Perryman, IA's director of social impact policy and counsel. "That's why IA is working to make it easier for our member companies and racial justice groups to support reform at the state and local level through our 50-state legislative tracker."
IA noted it has taken other actions aimed at improving diversity both in the internet workforce and the association itself, outlined in a report released in June. Among other things, the group launched a diversity and inclusion job referral site in August and gives employees a day off on Juneteenth, which is the June 19 date marking the end of slavery in the U.S.
